Harmony Adesola, aka HARMZ has been named the first recipient of the Anne-Marie Woods / Imani Enterprises African Diaspora Travel Scholarship. Congratulations!
Cultural Statement
Imani Enterprises is based in Tkaronto on the traditional territory of many First Nations including: the Mississaugas of the Credit, the Anishaabeg, the Chippewa, the Haudenosaunee and the Wendat peoples. This place where we create and reside is also home to many diverse First Nations, Inuit and Métis peoples.
We acknowledge, know and accept that the history as it is written is not yet a true reflection of this colonized land. We grieve the thousands of murdered children in unmarked graves. We also understand that Truth and Reconciliation are more than just words, but a lifetime commitment to undoing the wrongs of the past.
Amani (Anne-Marie Woods) is a woman of African Caribbean descent who immigrated to Nova Scotia, where African Nova Scotians and Mi’kmaq people intersect. She stands in solidarity on this stolen land with Aboriginal, Indigenous, First Nations, Metis and Inuit people in honour of her African ancestors who’s legacy started before enslavement. And she knows that it is through the many lost lives of her ancestors who fought for basic rights and freedoms… that allows her to exist as a Creative who can write, teach and educate.
